If you compare with Hollywood, I think it's fair to say that Bollywood isn't still all that high on sequels, since there's at least thirty sequels releasing every year in Hollywood but the picture is changing, and while there are a lot of unnecessary sequels like Jannat2, Hate story 2 or Ashique 2 (Honestly, Does it would have made anything less if it was named something else?)
Finally, before the countdown starts some quick points: making the list we mainly considers if the franchise is worth making, secondly box office and star cast and last but not least what's the future of the franchise and its continuation.
So, here we go....
10. Murder:
Bck in 2004 Emraan Hashmi was famous as a serial kisser and still some people forget that he has some really successful film under his kitty. Murder was a real phenomenon back than which mark the start of erotic mystery genre in Bollywood and who can forget it's soothing music? it also was the debut of director Anurag Basu. it took Vishesh films nearly 7 years to figure out that they could make a sequel of this one. the result was murder 2, Emraan Hasmi returns but the fading popularity of Mallika Sherawat ensures that audience will miss her sizzling chemistry. so, Jaquline took that spot. the result is a surprise hit which once again has some good music though the story line has a completely different setting but unfortunately the producers thought the brand is strong enough even without Emraan Hashmi so they replaced him withR andeep Hooda which results an above average box office number and pushes it to the very final spot of our list. Another important thing, though the films were successful their storyline was heavily borrowed from the foreign films and they never were well recieved by the critics.
9. Singham:
Rohit Shetty just isn't a comedy director who only makes Golmaal films, the first Singham proves that he can make action films too. the 2011 remake opened averagely but strong world of mouth started to spread and the film end its run with a very good 98 crore but after its world TV premiere it soared again and became one of the most watched films of recent times with repeat viewing.So when Rohit Shetty decieded to make a sequel of his beloved film, fans were excited to see ajay devgan in his iconic role as proved by the sequel Singham Returns's amazing opening number. it earned a hopping 30 crore in its opening day alone suppressing the original's entire weekend business. However, this time audiance can't love it especially the music and kareena kapoor's acting have been universally penned. but its 140 crore number is still huge and is the highest grosser of ajay devgan. If the sequel was just half as good as the original, this franchise would have entered our top 5 list. going forward since shetty loves to make sequels we might can expect mr. Singham Devgan back in action very soon.
