Two new releases enter the cinemas and neither were impressive enough to wow the audience though they are not bad too.
Dethroning the champion happy new year The Shaukeens opens at the top of the box office as expected. the film earned 18.5 crore over the weekend. this would be an impressive result considering the 1982s remake stars veterians Anupam Kher and Anu Kapoor, but when you consider its huge budget and Akshay Kumar's extended guest role that's an average result. the film opens pretty well but fails to continue this through the weekend. the daily figures are: friday : 5.15 crore saturday : 6.35 crore sunday : 7 crore.
The film still has chance to recover it's cost if it can continue to hold well. but that isn't the case with the other newcomer Rang Rasiya. the controversial Keetan Mehta film starring Randeep Hooda and Nandana Sen failed to succeed even with its good reviews and earned just 3.6 crore. probably the late release and the genre make this one a miss.
In its third weekend Happy New Year earned 6 crore and neared the 200 crore benchmark. Also opening this weekend the Hollywood release Interstellar earned 9 crore. a solid result considering non-franchise Hollywood release is a tough sale in India.
