After a fantastic $11.2 million Tuesday evening gross, the final chapter of director Peter Jackson's Hobbit triology debuted with an estimated $24.46 Million on Wednesday. At 3,875 theatres, that figure also includes the Tuesday night gross. Since none of the previous installments of this series didn't open on Wednesday, an apple to apple comparison can't be made. But the last one The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug earns $31.19 million on its opening Friday. the best comparison may be 'The two towers' which also opens on a Wednesday.
In 2002 that film earns $26.16 million on its opening day and $102.05 million through the Wed-run period. Since battle of five armies is already below 6.5 percent of that movie it might earn around $90 to $95 million on the same 5 day period.
