Weekend Boxoffice: Action Jackson dissapoints, Ungli drops heavily !!

Director Prabhu Deva directing Ajay Devgan in a action masala film; sounds like a sure thing at the box office. But probably that wasn't enough to excite audience as they stayed away from Action Jackson. And its sound too unbelievable that the film's three day weekend business couldn't match the opening day of Ajay Devgan's last film Singham Returns. though this isn't a fair comparison since that film was a sequel of a very well liked film. Holiday might be a more valid comparison that also stars Sonakshi Sinha. That film too started slow but great word of mouth helped it to earn near 40 crore in its first weekend whereas Action Jackson earned just 28.5 crore.

The film started well at the single screens on Friday but multiplexs were poor and it failed to improve from that level, that's not all that surprising considering the awful reviews it got from the critics. However those single screen too fell on Saturday as a result the 2nd day figure of 8.25 was actually lower than its Friday figure. Though the 28.5 crore weekend was more than any other releases of last 5 weeks, that's not telling much since the production cost too was almost double of them. the daily figures are as follows Friday : 9.25 crore Saturday: 8.25 crore Sunday : 11 crore.

As you may notice the only reason we aren't still calling the film a disaster is the unexpected jump it showed on Sunday. And since single screens normally tend to hold up well there's still some hope left for the film.
And also there is no good news for last week's release Ungli, since the film fell hard. on its second weekend the film just earned 1.5 crore for a 10 day total of 16 crore.
