Well, we are back with the sequel (!) of our
ongoing list of most popular franchise of Bollywood. If you somehow miss
the first part click here
7.Dabangg:

| Dabaang |
Looking at the current craze
surrounding Salman Khan and his films, this writer has nothing to do
but wonder that where there passionate fans were in 2006 to 2008? the
undeniable box office king had Salaam E Ishq, Marigold, Sawaariya, God Tussi Great Ho, Yuvraaz..... the list of flop films goes on.
yes, 'Wanted' was that much needed success but Dabangg was the film that
starts his dream run.
Back then, no want could imagine that such
an action masala film directed by a debut director might score at the
box office. well, until the theatrical trailer arrived. and what a
trailer it was! the film took a record breaking start on the Eid day and
great word of mouth kept it afloat, making it the second highest
grosser of all time just behind 3 idiots. a sequel was fast tracked for Christmas 2012 but the original director Abhinav Kashyap decided not to
return. so Arbaz Khan took that place and the result is a very average
film that failed to recreate the magic of the original and barely cross
its 141 crore lifetime and that's why its place is a lot below other
major franchises.
Arbaaz and Salman Khan started talking on the
next installments and since then there are no news on Dabangg 3 and
looking at the actor's busy schedule its very unlikely to happen in next
two or three years. probably Abhinav's return could interest Salman but
we can't guarantee that.
6. Don:

Sequel of a
remake! quite a weird thing. but no, the sequel Don 2 really did justice
to the original. Unlike most others, it successfully differentiate the
sequel from the original and further expands its universe for possible
future installments.
The first film, a remake of Amitabh Bacchan's classic opened in 2006, a year that will be remembered as the most important year for Bollywood sequels. Farhan akhtar makes sure that the film would offer some new twists to the audience. a definite great film and a hit at the boxoffice but it's success was overshadowed by films like Dhoom 2 and Krrish. the whole crew returned for the sequel in 2011 with a new setting.
Don2 should be marked as the last film of Shahrukh khan that is very well liked by his fans specially, his chemistry with Priyanka Chopra's charater Roma, but the producers decieded not to promote it aggreasively. Still the film crossed the 100 crore figure and thats the reason it is out of our top 5 since it's hit status is below the blockbuster level of our top 5 franchise films.
Recently there has been some speculation surrounding Don 3, but SRK took on twitter to declare that no one has asked him on it. Whether this statement is true or not, his fans definitely wants that film but we wonder if that happens in the future, will Priyanka chopra ever return considering her current relation with the actor?
05. Raaz:

| Raaz |
Some readers might criticize the inclusion of this entry on
the top 5, for them..... Raaz is actually the longest running franchise
in Bollywood and considering that the original came out in 2002 it's
also the oldest of the bunch. the original was a surprise success,
almost betting the lifetime of Devdas and considering the lack of
horror films back than, this one can be called a trendsetter. the film
also starts the carrier of director Vikram Bhatt and the first major
role for Bipasha Basu.
The sequel Raaz : The mystery continues came in 2009 without any direct relation with the original and a new cast of Emraan Hashmi and Kangna Ranaut. It failed to generate much excitement though wasn't a flop either. So, the makers thought they should do some workout and the result is Raaz 3D that has Bipasha from first and Emraan from the second film. Well, the plan worked very well and the film had a flying start at the box office and took a superhit status.
Quality wise its the same story as another Vishesh Films franchise that we have already talked but boxoffice is on the side of them and since these films are very moderately budgeted they are easy to deliver. expect Raaz 4 in a year or two.
04. Munnabhai:
Undoubtedly the most iconic film character of last decade. the duo of Munnabhai and circuit had there first introduction in 2003 through Munnabhai MBBS, a film that has became a cult classic and in the hand of acclaimed producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani they came back in 2006 with the same characters but in a completely new setting and once again chords a gold. Actually, quality wise this series defeats most of it competitors since both films were greatly received by audience and critics alike And how fabulously Sanjay Dutt and Arsad Warsi have done their job you can't imagine any other actors in those two roles.
And here is the main problem.... is there any chance of watching them once again? its almost been eight years and considering Dutt's conviction of illegal possession of arms relating to the 1993 Mumbai blasts case that sentenced him to 5 years imprisonment, it's guaranteed that the actor will be out of films till 2018.Still, the name (Munnabhai Chale America) and a new director (subhash kapoor of Jolly LLB fame) has been anounced and the producer confirmed that no film will be made without the involvement of Sanjay.
so, may be 2020....
