On the opening weekend basis at least, this year has been quite disappointing. there's only one 100 million opener and that's number for transformers4 is also controversial but Hunger Games: Mockingjay will definitely tops that number but probably fall short of its usual 150 million mark. The first Hunger Games opens on march 2012 with a shocking 152 million, a record number for an non franchise film. the second film opened last year with 158 million and became the highest grossing film of the year. though, Mockingjay too has a legitimate chance to become the highest grossing film of 2014, there's some reason to expect that it might not reach the height of its predecessors.

Firstly, this is based on the first half of the author Suzanne Collins final Hunger Games book. while this is a plus for the producer and excite the viewers on the final chapter, this always make that entry an unfinished story,so every time this method has been applied be it Harry Potter or Twilight, the domestic revenue always took a hit. the lack of arena scene may also make some viewer think twice to watch this at home rather than a cinema.

Finally, while both of the previous films were very well received (as proved by their rotten tomatoes score which is over 80% for both the titles) Mockingjay's critical reviews has been mixed so far with around 70% RT score. Yes, that means nothing to the passionate fan base, but general audience who are probably introduced to this franchise with the films might regard it as a red signal.

Taking all these account and controversy surrounding Jennifer Lawrence's cloud hack, it's fair to expect that Mockingjay will fall short of 150 million in its opening weekend, though that isn't entirely shocking. it still will remain hugely successful as a franchise and as with other similarly timed sequels will improve on the overseas market. 

Box Office Prediction : 

Opening weekend: 145 million

 Lifetime: 360 million.
